Start with the events you are attending
Check the programme with each organiser before committing to nights. Cadenhead’s festival page currently lists May 24–29, 2027 and says detailed event information will follow. That is a planning reference, not a promise that every tasting you want takes place on those dates. Allow for the journey in and out when setting your lodging dates.
Use the address, not just the region
An accommodation result for Kintyre may be well outside the town. Decide whether you need to walk to your events or will have reliable transport. Check the property address against the venues, including the trip back after an evening event. Avoid writing a brief that simply says “near Campbeltown” if you mean walking distance.
Compare town hotels and coastal stays deliberately
The Machrihanish Dunes accommodation directory distinguishes the Royal Hotel in Campbeltown from the Ugadale hotel and cottages in Machrihanish. These are different locations within one operator’s portfolio. Use that distinction when comparing availability, rather than assuming every result from the same hotel group is in town.
Search for the right room arrangement
Two friends may want a twin room rather than a double. A group may need separate bedrooms rather than the largest advertised guest capacity. The Ardshiel accommodation page, for example, describes twin, double and family room arrangements. Check the room type offered for your dates; a general hotel facilities page is not evidence that a particular room is available.
Use more than one route to find a room
Check hotel booking pages, smaller accommodation providers and rental searches. If a property offers a cancellation list, ask to join it. When using a rental site, keep check-in, check-out, guest count and maximum total in the saved search. Tell Poacher the distinction that matters: “Inside Campbeltown, two separate beds, and available for all four nights.”
If only part of the stay is available
Decide in advance whether changing properties is acceptable. Keep separate searches for the full stay and an acceptable split so a one-night vacancy is not confused with a complete solution. Check cancellation terms and transport before paying for either half. Poacher can notify you about potential matches; it cannot hold rooms while you decide.
Before booking
Recheck the exact address, full dates, bed arrangement and final price. Confirm current travel options with the transport operator for your dates. Old festival advice can be useful for ideas, but it should not supply this year’s timetable or a promise of late-night transport.
