## How to save a search on Craigslist

Craigslist supports saved searches and email alerts. Save the results page, then turn on the alert in your account’s searches tab.

1. Set your location and filters. Start with the right Craigslist area, category and search terms.
2. Save the results page. Use the “save search” link near the top of the page.
3. Turn on the alert. In your account, open searches and select the alert checkbox.

Craigslist says alert frequency depends on results. Saved searches cannot be edited; replace the saved search when you need different criteria.

## A local search needs local rules

A bicycle can match your keyword and still be the wrong size or need a full rebuild. Tell Poacher what you need; it reviews the listing before sending you a match.

Within your chosen collection area.

## Limits
Location and condition depend on what the seller provides. Poacher does not contact sellers, arrange pickup or confirm that an item is still there when you arrive.

### Why does my search change after an ampersand?
Craigslist documents that alerts using & search only the text before that character. Use its supported Boolean search syntax instead.

### A local search needs more than a city name
For a used bicycle, frame size and working brakes matter just as much as the price. Include your pickup area, the distance you can travel and whether repairs are acceptable. Poacher checks the listing against those requirements before passing it along.

### Why the same Craigslist listing can appear again
Craigslist’s native alerts may include renewed, reposted or edited ads when they match. An alert email is not necessarily a list of items being sold for the first time. Compare the description and photos before assuming a repost is a different bicycle.

### How often do Craigslist search emails arrive?
Craigslist does not describe a fixed interval you choose for native email alerts. It bases frequency on the previous result count and includes at most 20 results per email. In Poacher, you choose the check schedule for your search.

### Searching more than one area
Start with the area you can actually collect from. If you need several cities, use separate source searches instead of assuming one city’s results cover them all. Include pickup distance in your requirements so a low price does not hide an impractical trip.

- Location: Choose the local Craigslist area and include your collection boundary.
- Budget: Set a maximum item price and allow for repairs or transport.
- Item details: For a bike, specify frame size, type and condition rather than only a brand.
- Exclusions: Exclude parts-only listings, wanted ads and items needing repairs when appropriate.
